Saturday, January 21st at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum

Phoenix, AZ (January 3, 2012). The Arizona Derby Dames return to the coliseum to fight for position for the 2012 season. Teams compete for top stats rankings, and the chance to move directly into the championship game by ending the season in first place. The Schoolyard Scrappers take to the track for their first game of the season against the Brutal Beauties. Then the Bombshells take on the Runaway Brides.

Referee, John Wilkes Boosh, said of the upcoming bouts, “It’s always a blast watching new skaters make their debut, and since it’s the Schoolyard Scrapper’s first bout of the season, they will be showcasing their newest team members Darth Evade Her, Nikki Badazz, Samba Slugger, and Shirley Demise. They will play the new look Brutal Beauties in the first bout who have also been given a boost from their rookies Kiki UrHaz, Jill O’Shotz, Sarahcuda, and phenom jammer, Molly Whoremon. As a ref, both games will be keeping me on my toes because rookies tend to be a little penalty heavy as they learn the ropes, and the Bombshells and Brides both have some huge hitters on their squads. No doubt it’s going to be a blast!”

The Arizona Derby Dames traded their skates for hammers on December 17th to participate in a build for Habitat for Humanity in Surprise, AZ. The charity allows families to purchase houses that would be otherwise unattainable. Now the Dames are back in Phoenix and ready for the next double header of the season. In the first bout of the night, the Schoolyard Scrappers will battle the Brutal Beauties. The first bout between the Schoolyard Scrappers and the Brutal Beuties will showcase the diverse personalities of the league, ranging from the 2011 Drama Queen-- Kat Von Double D’s of the Schoolyard Scrappers-- to the 2011 Silent but Deadly Blocker-- Skluz Out of the Brutal Beauties. The second bout is a rematch of last year’s playoff final between the Bombshells and Runaway Brides; a game that came down to a jammer race in overtime and has been widely referred to as AZDD’s most exciting game in history. These ladies are ready to bring on the excitement, and show fans what Roller Derby and the Arizona Derby Dames are all about.

Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum is located at 1826 W. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85007 (602-252-6771). Arizona Derby Dames 2012 Season Banked Track Roller Derby Season Opener Brutal Beauties vs. Runaway Brides and Bombshells vs. Coffin Draggers
November 28 2011

The Arizona Derby Dames return to the coliseum to fight for position for the 2012 season. Teams compete throughout the season for top stats rankings, and the chance to move directly into the championship game by ending the season in first place. Second ranked team in 2011, the Runaway Brides, take on the Brutal Beauties; and the 2011 champions, the Coffin Draggers, compete against the Bombshells.

“The best part about this game is that we are playing the Draggers in the season opener. Over the last couple years a bit of a rivalry has developed between the Bombshells and the Draggers because this skill level of the competition is so high and the two teams are the two most competitive in the league. The games between our two teams are always very exciting and generally very close in score. Of course I want to win, but no matter what happens I skate away thinking, ‘Damn, that was some good derby!’” said captain of the Bombshells, Lady Lawless.

Lora Stabs, captain of the Coffin Draggers confirmed on behalf of her team, what they are looking forward to this season, “I don’t know…we like winning.”

The first bout, the Brutal Beauties versus the Runaway Brides, offers the chance for fans to see top jammer, Ellie Mayhem of the Runaway Brides, skillfully pass the opposing players. Ellie Mayhem held the top points-per-jam average for the 2011 season. The second bout showcases Cannibelle Corpse of the Coffin Draggers, awarded hardest hitter, best booty blocker, and best take-out in 2011. These girls bring top skills to the sport of roller derby.

Arizona Derby Dames 2011 All-Girl Banked Track Roller Derby Demonstrational Bout at the Arizona State Fair - Mimes vs Clowns
October 22 2011

Sunday, October 30th at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum

Phoenix, Arizona (October 17, 2011) - The Arizona Derby Dames combine skaters from all five teams to form a special Halloween-themed demonstrational bout for the Arizona State Fair. Fair-goers will learn the sport of roller derby while watching the Clowns take on the Mimes. The event offers the chance to see some of the top skaters in the nation.

Roller derby is an ever-evolving contact sport that started as a race on roller skates in the 1920s. The sport became team-oriented about a decade later and was nationally broadcasted in the 1950s and 1960s. While the televised version had a staged element, the Arizona Derby Dames are 100% non-scripted action. Played on quad skates, roller derby athletes fly around an oval track to score points by passing members of the opposing team.

During the regular season, five teams compete for the league championship title while this bout is for “bragging rights.” Fans hope to see star skater Nurse Ratchet deliver one of her crushing blocks or Smacaroni N. Cheez jump over a fallen skater to take the lead.

“The thing I love the most about the league is the unity. We care for one another no matter what; on skates or off skates. This league is a family and that is what I love most about roller derby,” said Mime, Smacaroni N. Cheez, of the Arizona Derby Dames team, the Brutal Beauties.

The Arizona Derby Dames are committed to sustaining a league founded by, ran by, played by, and grown by women. The sport offers a unique combination of athletic training and personal support as women move through school, work, family life, and charity work.

Additionally, the league is focused on helping the community through charity work. Upcoming initiatives include Habitat for Humanity, a coupon drive for families of military members overseas, and emergency donations for a local homeless shelter.

The Arizona Derby Dames are paving the way for women’s extreme sports as one of only seven all-girl banked track roller derby leagues in the world. Over 100 talented women make up the Arizona Derby Dames. The league just finished season six with season seven officially starting in December.

This bout will feature skaters that recently competed against one another for the championship title on September 24th. The Coffin Draggers beat the Runaway Brides in a highly competitive and close matchup. Now they join forces to entertain and showcase their roller derby skills.

Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum is located at 1826 W. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85007 (602-252-6771). Doors will open at 4:00 p.m. with the bouts starting at 5:00 p.m. Admission into the bout is free with admission to the fair.
