Director’s Log #2 – Battle on the Bank XI

We are just days away from the national tournament for RDCL leagues – Battle on the Bank. Tilted Thunder Rail Birds are the lucky host this year so teams will be converging on the birthplace of Starbucks – Seattle, WA to see which team reigns supreme.

This year’s adult lineup includes teams from the Arizona Derby Dames, LA Derby Dolls, Penn Jersey Roller Derby, San Diego Derby Dolls, Southside Roller Derby, Tilted Thunder Rail Birds and TXRD.

The junior’s lineup includes teams from the Arizona Derby Dames, LA Derby Dolls, San Diego Derby Dolls, Tilted Thunder Rail Birds and TXRD.

Last year’s tournament winner, the LA Ri-Ettes, are always a power house and have won the tournament more than any other league in RDCL. However, AZDD found a chink in their armor and beat them for the first time in league history at Chingadera in February, and again two months later at South x Southwest. Can AZDD topple its mentor league again and finally take it all? I’m slightly biased so I will go with yes!!! I have seen this team work all season and they have the skill, mentality and determination to pull this out. Plus…this is my first time traveling as a spectator to see Battle on the Bank so I know that they will make it worth my while.

On the junior’s side, the Minor Assaults are looking to finally capture that number one spot after falling short at last year’s tournament. With a solid veteran core roster, this year could finally be the time they do it. San Diego and Tilted Thunder are the two more experienced opponents that the Minor Assaults will have to face. LA has been rebuilding their juniors program over the last two years and this will be the debut for TXRD’s junior team. If there was ever a perfect victory storm brewing for AZDD, this is it!!!

Be sure to check back for a recap of the tournament and be sure to follow it live on the Battle of the Bank Facebook page.

Until next time…see ya on the flip side!!
