I was just at the Vitamin Shoppe and the lady was telling me that TONS of derby girls have been coming in lately. So... Do you ladies have any suggestions on smart supplements to invest in? I got some electrolyte packets to try out tonight.

She said that girls were getting protein supplements for after practice. She said its really important to take protein w/in 30 min after working out that hard. She also said a good multi vitamin. The B's are very important. That's all. I was hoping u girls would have more details. I cant really afford to "try out" different kinds. Ya know?

That happened to me on the birth control shot I got years ago. Had to quit cause it made me gain tons of weight!

I think most girls just take their womens multi vitamin. I don't think too many girls have gone crazy with vitamins... but I could be wrong!

Laughing I thought you were talking more like Creatine or Hydroxycut or something.

I take the Sprouts brand kids vitamin because I hate taking horse pills. That's about it. I don't know about anyone using extra protein powders or drinks on our league. Anyone?

The best you can do is extra cardio outside of practice: treadmill, elliptical, bike and then work some weight lifting in 3x a week. Eat well and there ya go. Don't need anything extra if you're already doing it right. (This is a Celeste section...any thoughts Celeste?)

I actually still take my prenatal vitimans and I take a calcium supplement too. I take the calcium as a precaution. I figure I play derby I should give my bones all the help they can get. Very Happy

muscle milk protein shakes (awesome to take 1 hour b4 and 1 hour after), green tea extract (pills), flax seed oil (pills), L glutamine, occasional glucosamine, and prenatal vitamins (i'm iron and zinc defficient). i really love the protein shakes for energy and extra calories to burn (the taste isn't that bad).

For cardio, spin class is the best thing you can do that is comparable to derby - in my opinion. You also burn 750 calories in a spin class... that's more than skating! Skating is 500 per hour (if your skating hard).

I was taking Calcium supplements for the same as Ember I play a sport where a broken bone could happen why not try to prevent it but I hate taking all different kinds of pills so I started drinking 2- 12 oz glasses of milk instead. Which is way more milk then I've ever drank in my life. I also take a Vit B Super complex, were its all the vit b's I also take fish oil and this weekend I planned on getting green tea, flax seed oil.
