Rules for 2-22-12 - Minimum Blocker Requirement and Penalties
During the last bout there seemed to be a lot of confusion from skaters regarding what happens when we have a situation where more then 2 blockers / pivots receive majors in the same jam (who sits in the box, who has to skate, etc.) So, time to clear that confusion up! First let's look at this basic fact regarding the maximum amount of skaters each team may have in the penalty box at once during a jam:
2 blockers
1 jammer
There can never be more than 2 blockers in the penalty box for a team at once, EVER. So what happens if 3 or 4 blockers get majors in one jam? Blocker 3 with a major and blocker 4 MUST SKATE in the next jam, THEN serve their time in the penalty box. Let's look at the rules written out.
7.4.5 - Up to two Blockers and one Jammer from each team may be in the penalty box at once.
7.4.5.1.1 - If three blockers have acquired penalty points, the last to acquire a penalty must skate in the next Jam, and serve her penalty in the subsequent Jam.
7.4.5.1.2 - If four blockers have acquired penalty points, the last two to acquire a penalty must skate in the next Jam, and serve their penalties in the subsequent Jam.
7.4.5.1.3 - Penalties will be served in the order that they were reported, not necessarily the order in which they were earned.
What happens if I am forced to skate because there are already too many blockers in the box, then I get another major during that jam? Skater still sits in the box for 1 jam, but all majors will contribute 1 point towards ejection. |

Rules for 3/25/2012 Team Areas (AKA team box)
Last night a lot of skaters and sidelines coaches were outside of their team boxes as the jams were in progress.
I've been in that position before and I know it can be difficult at times to stay in there but it's important that you do for safety reasons.
As a jam ref I've slammed into quite a few people outside the box. Injuries have happened.
here is where you can find it in the rules....
2.1.5 The teams will have chairs or benches for their skaters in the infield in designated team areas.
Only those skaters who are on the roster for that game are allowed in the designated team area.
Up to two support staff (team managers, coaches, or other non-skating players) per team are
allowed in this area during game play.
2.1.5.1 All skaters and authorized infield personnel must remain in these boundaries for
safety.
Here it is under Illegal Procedures
6.17 Illegal Procedures (IP)
6.17.3 Minor Penalty
6.17.3.10 Skaters or team representatives who are not active participants in a Jam standing
outside of their teamʼs box while the Jam is in progress. One warning will be given to
a team, and subsequent incidents will result in penalties for the offending skaters or
for the captain in the case of a violation by a support member.
Stay in your box _________________ Dolly de los Muertos

Rules for 4-10-12 - Skating Out of Bounds
Wanted to clarify something here in regards to skating out of bounds. Going forward we will NOT be counting the distance that it takes for a skater to stop from a hit that sends them into the infield towards penalty distances. Having said that, if a hit sends a skater into the infield and they do not actively try to stop quickly (just coasting / very slowly attempting to stop), that distance WILL be counted. |
